Saint John Evangelist

Stained glass window situated in the nave of the Cathedral

Saint John Evangelist, is shown holding a book, an ink well, and a feather, symbolizing his writing of the fourth gospel.

At his side is an eagle, which symbolizes the word of God and is often used to symbolize Saint John in religious art. Some sources attribute it to the heights that he attains in the first chapter of his gospel.

Inscription: ”In loving memory of William Lennie Macqueen born 14th May 1832 died 23rd January 1879”.

No visible signature: there is no documentation to uphold the hypotheses of attribution.
