Window Nº6

Simeon Holding The Child Jesus (Luke 2:22-32)

This stained glass window is situated in between the rood screen and the organ tubes on the northeast side of the Cathedral.

Simon was a very devoted man, and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah

who would save the people of God. Simeon was led by the Holy Spirit to enter the temple in Jerusalem where Mary and Joseph had brought Jesus, their first son, to present him to God.

When Simeon saw the child, he took him in his arms and praised God.

His words proved that he had recognized Jesus as the Messiah that he was waiting for. Simeon is wearing a hat that resembles a bishop´s mitre. Haloes can be seen around the heads of the figures.

Inscription: “In loving Memory of Joseph Sothers”.

Signed by Lavers & Westlake, 1894.
